Well, here we are – the final post in our “real families talk biracial haircare” series! I want to give one last GREAT BIG THANK YOU to the awesome parents who shared their experiences with us. Jordan, Sarah, Peggy, Melanie, Vanessa, and Martha – you ladies are fabulous and I truly appreciate your willingenss to be a part of this!
I’ve loved hearing everyone’s stories. One of the common themes I noticed while pulling together the posts in the series is what a source of joy hair can be for our kids. There seemed to be a sense of pride that kids got from really inhabiting their hair and rockin’ it. M was so proud of his twists. Ayanna’s got her “happy hair.” My own little guy insists on wearing his hair in a “monkey-hawk.”
I appreciated the honesty as moms spoke about their own learning curves and, in some cases, insecurities about figuring out how to care for hair that might be really different from their own. And I just loved Martha’s hair-combing song!
To wrap things up, I thought I would share a round-up of the products and resources recommended throughout the series, so everything is in one place.
