Perfectly Ordinary Summer Days

I love summer. In truth, I love every season equally. But right now it is summertime (90 degree temps leave no room for denial), so I am loving summer. Summer somehow brings about that paradoxical combination of being super-busy and perfectly lazy at the same time. There are cook-outs and festivals and trips to the pool, but in the midst of it all is friends and fun and kicking back relaxing.

We've had some wonderfully perfect summer days over the past week. Last Sunday was one. As soon as the boys woke from their naps, we headed to the pool, where Zippy worked on perfecting his transformation from boy to fish and Bee wanted to play with the landscaping rocks. (A reminder that what kids get out of an outing is not always what we intend!)

On the way home we picked up a pizza. No cooking and a dinner everyone will eat. Score!

It started raining, which put the kibosh on our plans to roast s'mores and chase fireflies. So Zip pulled a science kit out of the craft closet and got to work playing mad scientist, with his little brother as mad sidekick.

And what better substitute for s'mores than ice cream sundaes before bedtime?

It was one of those perfect summer days where we didn't do anything out of the ordinary, but we got to spend a whole afternoon and evening together as a family, with no distractions. Those are the best kinds of days!

This Saturday was another perfect day, although a more event-filled one. But first, a leisurely morning in the playroom.

Bee wanted Grandma to come over to play. Skype rocks!

Our daycare's Annual Family Picnic, held at the park and splash pad. (The last one ever, since the daycare closes in September. *sniff-sniff*)

And after naps, the annual Bluegrass festival. Whether or not you're a fan of bluegrass, nothing beats hanging out on a picnic blanket with friends on a warm summer evening! The festival was packed, as always.

Wrap it all up with a beer on the front porch with Musing Poppa, after the kids are tucked in fast asleep, and you've got a perfect summer day.

What does your perfectly ordinary summer day look like?

Love, Ellie
